DDG Anesthetists

Through their expertise, our anesthetists offer personalized care

What is the role of the anaesthetist?

The anaesthetist is the doctor responsible for putting the patient to sleep before a surgical operation by administering anaesthetic medication using different techniques: general anaesthesia or locoregional anaesthesia, sedation,...

This raises the patient's awareness and sensitivity to pain to varying degrees.

The anaesthetic activity takes place in different phases before, during and after the operation:

  • Before: pre-anaesthetic consultation: the anaesthetist assesses the patient's health status through a questionnaire and a health check-up. This is done in order to define the most appropriate technique and dosage, depending on the patient's general condition. This also allows us to avoid any medication interaction during the anaesthesia. The aim is to reassure the patient and give him/her an informed explanation of the operation and anaesthesia.
  • During the operation: The anaesthetist closely monitors the patient's vital parameters by various means (monitor, electrodes, measuring device, etc).
  • After: recovery room: the anaesthesia doctor monitors the patient's vital signs and ensures pain management and control.
